Color Theory

It might have been the Clariton I am on that made me slightly loopy, or the fact that I have been immersed in color labs in design class... but I did it, or rather my friend Mary did...

I colored a piece of my hair pink!  Its a small piece but it is pink all the same.

My friend Mary works in a hair salon and I was over there yesterday so the little sister could get a hair cut, we were the last customers and just hanging around... so I let her do it.

FYI: I LOVE RUFFLES

I don't know if you know this fact...  it should be pretty much common knowledge. But if you happened to not know... I LOVE ruffles!

I don't really know what it is about them, but it is love. And as midterms and busy bee-ness is winding down, I am starting to get back to the interwebs of fashion again. And I was hungrily taking in notcot this evening and came upon this amazing ruffled skirt!

The Precious Skirt in Electric Blue by Katy Rodriguez, $785,  is so gorg, it is truly to die for. The full ruffles and the amazing color!

I think it may just be the luscious romantic nature of the ruffle that I love so much. They remind you of an old love story.

And while I am in love with this skirt... its price tag is anything but LOVE for a fashionista on a budget... so I did a little browsing... Trying to find something anything, that could live up to Katy Rodriguez's skirt but on a budget and I only found some sad attempts. Nothing that would live up to the amazing volume or color of this skirt...

But here are the ruffly fruits of my skirt search:

First, I have the Strata dress from ModCloth $199.99
-I have mixed feelings about this dress, I am not sure if I like it or not. The thing that caught me about it, was how structured the top looks with its knife pleats it looks almost like armor then you get to the skirt and its full and voluminous with soft ruffles.

Second, I have the Plum-struck dress, also from ModCloth $72.99
- I like this dress for its awesome color, and the ruffles it featured aren't perfect, they are young and flirtatious, different, much like those seen in the inspiration skirt.

For a fun skirt I found this on from Forever 21, for $13.80.
- I think the peplum gives it something fun and young, though not nearly as amazing as the original skirt.

And for a classic look, inspired by this offbeat skirt, I found this AMAZING dress from J Crew
Ruffled Edelyn Lawn Dress, which was $118, but is now $98
- in Shadow of course, I think it captures the softer, classic romantics of ruffles in a very prim and proper way

But in life news, I have been drawing figures and clothes in class, its so much fun yet stressful at the same time. And as i mentioned earlier midterms are pretty much done although mine spread out for like two weeks, but anyways school is starting to simmer down, so start to expect more posts from me!

A Fall Holiday

So this past weekend was Fall holiday, giving us 2 days off of school. While it didn't really feel like fall... it was a nice and much needed break.

Thursday my friends and I took a trip to New Orleans, did the whole French Market, Aquarium thing.

We went to a few cute shops, a music store. One of the stores we went into had a lot of vintage hats so we had an impromptu fashion show.

Once back in town we went to this gelato place Latte e Miele, which had homemade gelato and it was awesome and there logo was gorgeous... I googled a picture of it...

Then we went out to 80s night that night, which was fun, but I had a headache before we got there, and the music wasn't as good as the last time we went.

Then I went to see Whip it on Friday, and it was so good. I really enjoyed it, I think we should all go join roller derby teams..

The rest of the weekend was chill. I did a little baking... Mini cupcakes a la Bakerella.com. I helped a friend design Postsecrets for a gift for her bf.

Oh and in my fashion design class, we have started figure drawing, and soon we will be creating our own lines. But my figure... looks pretty much like an alien... its blocked out right now.. but soon i will be fleshing it out... making it or attempting to make it human like.

Nail Polish of the Week

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, RUSSIAN NAVY!

Since its fall, and started to get a tiny bit cooler around here, I decided that it was time to venture away from bright pinks and other such colors and go to the dark side.

Russian Navy is just what it says Navy, a nice deep navy and it looks really good against really pale skin... so its pretty much perfect for me.

The first time I saw the color was in a magazine showing it in matte, and while I didn't get it in matte it just looked so rich and beautiful and it really popped against the model's porcelain skin tone.

I think it also really makes the ring I wear everyday stand out. At least 3 people who see me often noticed my ring and thought it was new... when I have been wearing it almost everyday for a year.

Nail Polish of (last) Week, Among other things

So, where have I been? School mainly, I have had projects due and tests, and my T.V. shows are starting back up... and I follow many. Football games on the weekends, and I actually slept till 2 p.m. last sunday.  But I am trying to get back to my norm!

But anyways... I had an awesome nail color last week! I did OPI's Flashbulb Fuchsia, and I loved it its purply pink and made me happy all week long.

And it was rainy  all last week... and during the foot ball game... So I got to go out in style, in a poncho... very cute...

Today, I wore a color block dress which I got from Old Navy for only $15I wore my gold XXI heart necklace and some pink flats.

When I got home from school, I played with the dogs in the backyard, which explains the tennis ball in my hand... here is Dasiy...

When it Rains, It Pours

So, one of the things I hate about my campus, is that it is huge and when it rains over there it pours, and to get to class you must trek through rain and yuck to get there. And has it been  raining. To make it worse I don't have appropriate rain gear... but at least I actually had an umbrella today.

So to combat the rainy days I decided to gather some rain related gear... I started with the all essential raincoat... I can go with cute or I can go with practical.
Cute would be the Fire and Raincoat from modcloth which runs for $100.

Another, more affordable cute option would be The Merona with Hood white/dots from Target for $34.99

Not so cute but very practical, the Trail Model Rain Jacket from L.L. bean for $59.95-$69.95.
For Umbrellas... I have my special pink and yellow dot umbrella from Target that I got for my England trip 2 years ago... so its very special to me.  BUT... I liked this one from Modcloth. Peacock!
For shoes... because at school it doesn't just rain... it floods! I don't like the idea of full on rain boots, as cute as they are I really don't want to run around campus in them... so I think that these Sperrys are a good alternative.

Some other rain stuff that made me happy!

A Graphic tee from Forever 21

AND HELLO KITTY! Forever 21 $2.80

As much as I love a rainy day, its been raining for like a week… I am kinda ready for it to be over with… the weather people say its going to be raining into the weekend… so … Stay dry!

Last night, I had a late night working on a paper I had to turn in today... So I woke up late and rushed to school...
Top: Peacock Trapeze Top, Oldnavy
Shorts: Black Cuffed shorts
Necklace: Black beads with Chiffon, Forever 21
Ring: Black Cameo, Charming Charlie
Shoes: Pink Flats, Target

Fashionista Diaries goes to Youtube...

So I wanted to make a tutorial on the Two Tone nail polish I did on the little sister the other day... and I thought that instead of writing it out I would do a video... So I made my first youtube video.... and I now have my own youtube channel... www.youtube.com/fashionicon01.

I am thinking of maybe doing some makeup tutorials... and maybe some sort of fashion related videos... but everyone should check out my youtube channel... I won't be updating it too often, but I hope to stick to it!

The Two Tone tutorial uses both Essie colors Loophole and Over the Top. You could use any colors you wanted for this... but the little sister wanted her silver and black.

So tell me what you think... should I quit youtube... or keep going. The video has its problems... but all things I can work on!

Nail Polish of the Week

Loophole by Essie

So I didn't buy Essie's Silver Bullion off of my wish list, because my local Ulta didn't have the color in stock. But they did have Loophole, and that is this weeks nail color, I have my beautiful silver nails!

Ulta was having a buy 2 get 1 free sale on Essie so I also bought Steeling the Scene, a light gold color; and Damsel in a Dress, a deep Maroon/purple color.

Then I did the little sister's nails she wanted Black and Silver nails so this is how that turned out, I plan on doing a how-to post on how I achieved this look!

Project Runway 6.3

Sorry this is late, but I left the house early Friday morning, and this is the first time I have had since then.... But this post has Spoilers, so don't read if you haven't watched the latest Episode of Project Runway.

So Thursday’s episode of Project Runway was pretty good. It started off with Heidi telling the contestants that they would be going on a field trip. They are then brought to the beach where they meet with Tim and he gives them their challenge… to make a California Beachwear inspired look… but they will be in teams.  Teams where as follows: (1) Shirin and Carol Hannah, (2) Logan and Chris, (3) Nicholas and Gordana, (4) Mitchell and Ra’mon, (5) Althea and Louise, (6) Qristyl and Epperson, (7) Johnny and Irina.

And Mitchell was one of the team leaders. Now in earlier episodes we had learned that Mitchell does not know how to sew… he can come up with ideas but the kid doesn’t know how to sew … so I felt really bad for Ra’mon when he was chosen.

But anyways… they got  to work … Epperson and Qristyl annoyed me the whole time. Qristyl has no taste and Epperson was way pushy but they were just annoying.  As the designer’s got to working on their looks, Tim comes in and tells them they will be designing a second garment for an Avant-garde look. And I think it would have been cool to see what Malvin, who was voted out last week would have done for this challenge.

But back to the current episode, the designer’s pretty much completed their looks with out any problems or last minute drama… Ra'mon decided to hand dye some fabric very last minute but other than that.

On the runway, Shirin, Carol Hannah, Logan, Chris, Althea and Louise were all sent to the back, as their designs scored high enough to let them stay in… Leaving Nicholas & Gordana and Qristyl & Epperson in the bottom and Mitchell, Ra’mon, Johnny and Irina as the top designers. Poor Ra’mon carried Mitchell through the challenge, but he really proved himself in the end by winning the Challenge, while Mitchell was voted out… thank the lord.

My Favorite designs from this episode were Chris & Logan’s Surfer Chic look and Shirin and Carol Hannah’s look.

And my least Favorite were Nicholas and Gordana’s Avant-Garde look and Qristyl and Epperson’s look.

Check out all the designs at mylifetime.com.

Also I will be tweeting throughout the next Episode of Project Runway, just like I did for this last episode.

Tweeting Project Runway

I have been a fan of twitter for a while... and I must say I was using it way before it was big.
But anyways... for anyone who cares, I am planning on twittering my thoughts on tonight's Project Runway Ep. throughout the show.  Then after that I am going to do a post about it... but anyways you can follow me @thefashiongirl.

The lovely pictured was done by the Amazing Sandy! Thanks Manda!

Fall Wishes!

Since my last wish list post, I have only managed to get my hands on the (500) days of Summer Soundtrack, which I must say was amazingly awesome! I just love leaving it on repeat on my computer. But, I still don't have my necklace or my new OPI colors. I am waiting for Modcloth to restock the necklace... I want it badly!

But, school has started... that means that I cannot wait for it to be fall. It has been so hot walking, no trekking across campus to all of my classes. I can't wait for some cooler weather and to be able to wear cooler weather things.

First I have a selection of shoes. I have never actually owned a pair of boots, so my goal this fall is to get me a pair. I have picked three of my favorites so far.

- Kelly&Katie. Jillian Leather Ankle Boot. Brown. @ DSW $59.90

- Kelly&Katie. Jill Leather or Suede Boot. In Cognac Leather. @ DSW $89.95

- Zigi Soho. Whitney Suede Ruffle Boot. Taupe Suede. @DSW $79.95

I also have been wanting a pair of moccasins, and I was looking through stuff from Old Navy last night and found the cutest pair.

-Old Navy. Studded Leather Moccasins. Bronze. @ OldNavy.com $24.50

And, I love ruffles, and a similar pair of these shoes were out last fall, but I never got them... I really want a pair of ruffled heels.

-Madden Girl. Setra Fabric Ruffled T-strap Platform. @ DSW $39.95

Next I have my fall jackets, although, they really aren't needed that much around here, it will probably be extra hot into December, then be cold for a few days then maybe some snow again? (That's just me dreaming of another snow day) But you have to have a jacket, it will eventually get cold and I must stay warm. Last winter I only had one main jacket, and that annoyed the hell out of me so hopefully I can get a few basic ones this year?

This first jacket I found, but I really don't like the buttons... so I have ordered some new buttons off of ebay to replace the ones on the jacket! (I'm not going to show the buttons yet... thats for another post)
-Old Navy. Women's Plus Canvas Double-Breasted Peacoat. Peacock $44.50

-Old Navy. Belted Wool Blend Jacket. Black Jack $69.50

Nails, oh nails... I love nail polish... I know that is something new, because I never ever talk about this love... But oh how I love coloring my nails... I decided to show which colors I am craving this season.
I saw this girl with silver nails the other day and LOVE!  I really did like her nails... but I found this color from Essie, I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet. But, I think this is the look I was going for.

-Essie. Silver Bullions. $8.00

I have never tried these MAC colors but, I was on Instyle's website the other day and they had a thing about MAC Nail colors... and the colors just looked so beautiful.

And of course I still want my OPI Espana colors... but they were in my last wish list...

Denim obsession... So I have my trouser jeans that I absolutely love, and my bootcut, which have started to become a little too short... but I don't have any skinny. Now I am a big girl, but Lane Bryant... where I shop for my jeans, has come out with a new straight leg jean. I want to try them in store first, but from what I have seen they look good I hope they fit well... I really could use them with the boots I am planning to get this season.

-Lane Bryant. Right Fit Straight Leg Jean. Medium Sandblast $54.50

And while on the topic of jeans, I have been seeing the denim leggings for a while now... and they are starting to become popular... I haven't made up my mind on those... maybe i will get a cheap pair from XXI?

Scarves, I could go on all day about them. I love them but I really don't have many of them, I wore a few last year, but not too many, I am hoping to wear more this year, I am already stocking up.

-Forever 21. Classic Faux Pashmina Scarf. Turquoise $6.00

-Forever 21. Pink Plaid Scarf. Fuchsia/Black $7.80

-Gap. Lightweight Floral Scarf. Garland Green $24.50
-Gap. Lightweight Painterly Scarf. Strawberry Field $24.50

Makeup, so I have this small obsession with makeup... and I have a 20% off coupon to ULTA so... I think I may be planning on getting some new makeup soon. I have really been loving Maybelline quads and some of there individual colors.

-Maybelline. Amethyst 105 Single

Some other things I want for this fall include, some sort of rain boot... which I haven't picked out yet, as well as Teal leggings from Forever 21.
-Forever 21. Basic Leggings. Teal $4.80

I really can't wait for fall to kick in, the weather around here is starting to get nice... it was even cool the other night! But that concludes my wishlist for now... What's on your fall wish list?

Oh and don't forget Project Runway is on Tonight!
Oh, and BTW ... since this is my wish list, I don't have the items, therefore I couldn't take pictures... so all the links are where all the pictures are from!
