Because I So Needed Another Pair...

I went shopping today, and I didn't spend too much either.  I went to T.J. Maxx with Anna and while I don't usually shop there I did find some cute things. They had a few Coach purses and I found a nice Michael Kors and Lucky Brand Purse. However I couldn't bring myself to buy any of them. They did have a good selection of sunglasses though, so I got myself Some Betsey Johnson Sunglasses for $15.
I just couldn't pass these up. 1. They have that cat eye to them that I have been wanting so badly. 2. They were big, my must have. 3. They are adorable! Check out the side detail, light pink stripes and a black bow.
And after going into the Betsey Store when I was in New York I have been wanting something Betsey.
I also got this new MAC eyeshadow Amber lights, its a gorgeous golden bronze color.

At the Make Up Counter: Brushes

This week has seemed to drag on, and not in a good way either. Work has been busy and it has just been so stressful. I've had 3 or 4 posts on draft for the past week and I just can't seem to find enough time to get them done.
Finally I have a few minutes to myself to get something complete...

I want to preface this post by saying I am a complete amateur at makeup. I love playing with it, experimenting and what not. But I have no proper knowledge and I am not a make up artist. Having said that...

I was asked recently where you can find good affordable makeup brushes. So I decided it was a good time for a post on makeup brushes...

Of course we have all heard of MAC brushes being really good, I however haven't used those yet but I am pretty sure they would be awesome. Check out Allthatglitters21's MAC brushes video, she really does a good job of explaining all the brushes she owns...

I have a Bobbi Brown Foundation brush which I love. However Bobbi Brown brushes can be very costly, my foundation brush alone was $35 dollars. On a college student's budget that doesn't get very far... that is why that brush was a gift from my aunt.
Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush

My main brushes have come from Coastal Scents. I love this company, which I have said before. The brushes can be bought individually or in sets and they're priced just right. The low prices of the brushes allows you to buy many and experiment finding which ones work for you!

Coastal Scents 13 piece set

I have the 13 piece brush set, $16.95, its really good for anyone just starting out in the makeup world. It gives you a good base of brushes to have.
The 13 brushes in the set contain a blend of sable and goat hair, except for two synthetic brushes. I found that even though these brushes have a low price, they are a good quality. I have been using them for over a year now and none of them have shed and all remain in good condition.
The brushes come with a carrying case, which I dont really use. The case isn't anything amazing, though other sets come with cuter cases. The only times I have used the case was to protect my brushes while traveling.

Aside from this set, other brushes I use often include:
  • Crease brush, not really sure where this one is from, Avon or Mary Kay someone gave me a brush set for my birthday forever ago. But I still love this one.
  • While I don't own any, I have used Sephora brushes before and liked them.

Cleaning brushes:
Cleaning your brushes is very important! They are going on your face and in your makeup and along the way they will pick up bacteria which can cause infections!
I use Sephora Anti-bacterial brush cleaner at least once a week. Anytime I use my brushes on someone else I clean them before and after use. Also when using liquid/ gel eyeliner, liquid foundation or a cream eyeshadow, the brush should be clean after each used.
At least once a month, I thoroughly wash my brushes using Johnson's No More Tears baby shampoo.

Just remember to have fun with your makeup, play around with the brushes... nothing is set in stone.

Smokin'

When I'm on vacation, I always try not to bring my whole make up drawer with me, especially when I'm at the beach. So when you're  low on options, you have to be creative with your look.
So anyways, I'm on vacation reading different blogs and byHillary, one of the blogs I follow posted a Giveaway, challenging readers to create a smokey eye look.  I say to self, I can do this. Then I notice, I'm not going to be home in time to complete this challenge, and I only have a small fraction of my make up with me.
So my challenge, create a smokey eye look, using what limited resources I have.

What I used:

  • Mac's Paint Pot, Painterly
  • Maybelline's Amethyst Smokes
  • Maybelline's Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
  • Estee Lauder Blush "Pink Kiss"
  • Estee Lauder' Tiger Eye lipstick
  • Mary Kay's Black Cherry lipstick
  • Milani's Glitzy Glamourgloss

The Smokey Eye

  • I started off with my normal base routine, then I started off my eyes with MAC's Paint Pot in Painterly as a base
  • I then used the white and covered my eye to the brow
  • Next I used the bright purple color and spread it from the lash line to the crease
  • Then I took the darker purple and dusted it on the lid
  • Taking the black, I then smudged it up from the lash line
  • Then I lined my eyes with Maybelline Gel Liner, and used Loreal Voluminous Mascara
  • To finish off the look, I used Estee Lauder Blush "Pink Kiss", then mixed Black Cherry and Tiger eye lipsticks and put gloss over it.

The Final look...
So a simple way to get a Glam Smokey eye look, working with what you have. An added bonus, if you don't have anything to work with, most of what I used is pretty simple to run to a drugstore and just pick up if you are in a bind.

Oh, and remember how I was saying I went to the outlets? Well I went to Fossil, almost bought another watch, but settled on buying a new pair of sunglasses. I actually bought 2 pairs... the other I shall show on a later date.

How Funny...

So I was on www.notcouture.com just browsing when I come across this:
Seriously? I mean I will admit that I am a fan of the whole twilight thing, I read the books and I watched the movie. Heck, I even was there at midnight to pick up my copy of Breaking dawn but this is somewhat ridiculous. This is what was said about it "This product should be shaken before use to represent the blending of the human and vampire worlds".   I mean come on, they are marketing Twilight for all that its worth... remember the perfume?

The perfume sold at Hot Topic for about $48, I can't find a link to it but oh well...

So the lip Venom is sold at DuWop for $16 and it is actually a Plumping Lip stain, which I might have liked if it weren't for the whole Twilight thing, I think its kinda tacky... don't you?

13th Birthday!

So the baby sister is turning 13 next Thursday! She is having her party on Friday, a movie night sleepover, but I will be out of town, so I am helping mom plan it...

So for gift bags since these kids are 13 we are ordering some makeup from Eyes Lips Face (e.l.f).

We ordered a few eyeshadows, blushes and lipglosses as well as some blush brushes... and while making the order I may have thrown in a few things for my self... But anyways, we are going to put that together I was hoping to run out to Hobby Lobby and pick up some Chinese Take out boxes which are like my favorite things.

I am also planning on making a huge batch of bite sized chocolate covered cupcakes! I am making them for the party, as favors and for my beach trip which also starts on Friday... I have a feeling that this week I will be baking alot!

Hopefully we get those e.l.f. products in on time!

Mary Kay

I am not a big fan of Mary Kay, but my cousin has become a Mary Kay consultant ... so I must support family. So on my trip to Miami I let my cousin show me some stuff from Mary Kay. I'm not sure if Mary Kay has gotten a new look or anything but they definitely seemed more youth friendly... not just old lady makeup. So since I love lipgloss and had been looking for a darker purply lipgloss... I got Sugarberry... which I love I usually put a pink lipstick and then put it over and it turns out not too  dark but just right...

Also while looking through one of the Mary Kay catalogues I fell in love with this limited edition Bahama Blue eyeliner that I just had to have... which is weird because i had never been into colored eye liner... so i got that too! and I absolutely love it...
Mary Kay Bahama Blue Eyeliner (I don't remember how much this cost)

My cousin also gave me a bunch of samples... they had this great purple eye liner

Makeup Trip!

For some reason... (Mom) I have recently gotten really into makeup. My first love will always be fashion, but I have been experimenting in makeup recently. I really like to watch allthatglitters21's makeup tutorials on youtube.com and I have bought some really neat makeup.... so I guess I shall share my amazingly awesome finds.
First, I have been a big fan of Bobbi Brown since high school, but now since I am a "starving college student" I must turn to cheaper stuff I or rather mom has found that Revlon Colorstay works just as well.  I got mine for $10 and Wal Mart.

Second, even though I love my Estee Lauder eyeshadow palette... it doesn't contain a large variety... but my Coastal Scents 88 piece eye shadow palette sure does! And its only $18.95, I really think this was a Great Buy!

And Last but not least! I think the thing I am loving the most this summer is my Coastal Scents Gel liners! And I must say, at first Coastal Scents sent me the wrong liner, but they were great and are sending me a replacement liner and they aren't even making me go through the hassle of sending the other color back! so the gel liners are $6.95 each and worth every penny... I am currently loving Indigo Blue the most!
