Nail Polish of the Week: Laced Up

So I finally got around to trying Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips. I heard a lot of good things about these, many of the girls in my pattern making class had tried them and loved them.  I wasn't sure at first because they cost $10 for a set and I could buy a new nail color for $8. But you can get some pretty cool designs that you wouldn't be able to achieve with polish, so thats where I decided to go ahead and get some polish strips. 

 The stickers took me a few tries to get used to before getting the hang of it, I probably should have watched the video on the Sally Hansen website. I even decided to time myself, I think I ended up taking about 30 minutes to put them on. I heard other people only took them like 5 minutes.  None the less, they were still a lot quicker than when I paint my nails. 

The nails lasted me about 6 days, on the last day I had my interview for my internship, so I was plenty nervous and started picking at them. They probably would have lasted a little while longer had I not gotten nervous. 

I would probably do these again, but I would only do the prints, I wouldn't pay for the solid colored ones. 

Nail Polish of the Week: Black Shatter

OPI just came out with their new Katy Perry inspired colors, and of course I had to have some! I got Teenage Dream, a pink glitter and Black Shatter, one of the coolest colors I have. 

You start off with a blank slate of any color, the little sister did it with a hot pink, I chose to stick with classic black and white. 

I did two coats of white then let the nails fully dry. Once dry, apply one coat of Black Shatter... 

sit back and watch, the shatter effect happens pretty quickly. In the time that it took me to put down the brush and pick up the camera, it had already shattered a lot, Example A: picture 1.

I had trouble finding the Katy Perry nail polish, I usually get mine at Ulta, but they either didn't have it yet or weren't going to carry it. I found it at Trade Secret and also on Amazon. 

Nail Polish of the Week: Fash Pack

I forget where I heard it first, but I'd heard about the nail polish brand Butter London, and I definitely wanted to try it. However, I just heard about it and never really looked into where I could get some. Then I was browsing Ulta's website, and came across the Butter London line. At $15 a bottle, its my most expensive nail polish, but its definitely one of my favorites. I chose Fash Pack, which was described on the butter London website as "An edgy and unusual colour. Putty meets mushroom. Sounds strange and wrong, but somehow it works, like deep fried Mars bars. (an actual English delicacy)."

It delivered, I have finally found my long sought after Putty colored polish.  I am most def going to be wearing this color for a while. 

Earlier in the week, my nails were painted Essie's Chubby Cheeks, which is and orange/coral color. I think the picture made it look more orange than it truly is, but not by much. 

And I finally found something to hold all my nail polishes! Although, its already mostly full and I'll probably have to get something else soon. Oh well it works for now.

Nail Polish of the Week: Jade is the New Black

Its been awhile and then I don't even post a good picture, I post a phone picture. Oh, well. Its almost time for back to school, next Tuesday, so time again to get back to the routine. 

This week's color is OPI's Jade is the New Black, its a great  jade green color although the picture makes it look a little blue. 

Nail Polish of the Week: Stealing the Scene

I know it has been a while, but truthfully I didn't paint my nails for about a month. GASP! Last week I went with Stealing the Scene from Essie its a metallic mixture of silver and gold... and after a while it just looked completely silver.  Nevertheless, its a great festive color.

And I misplaced my camera... so Iphone pictures for now. 

This week, I have my KISS Everlasting French Manicure going. I haven't grown tired of it yet and popped them all off, hopefully I'll keep them on a full week this time.

And my toes are a lovely shade of Envy, which looked especially festive with my red peep-toe flats. 

Nail Polish of the Week: Damsel In a Dress

This week's color is Essie's Damsel in a Dress. I got this color forever ago, and I think this is one of the first times I have used it. Anyway, its use was long overdue. I really love this dark almost black purple color. Its a great week before Halloween shade.

Nail Polish of the Week: March of Hearts 2009

This week's color is an ode to Breast Cancer Awareness month, March of Hearts 2009. Its a great light pink color, perfect for those quick nail polish jobs, I did this one 5 minutes before I had to walk out the door.

Nail Polish of the Week: Merino Cool

The nail polish this week was supposed to be Sew Psyched a sage/grey color from Essie's current Fall collection. However, life had other plans and my nails got completely messed up from some fabric adhesive. So the color for this week is Essie's Merino Cool, also from the current fall collection.

I'm not happy with how this picture came out. In person, the color is a darker purple. I love it its really pretty and neutral. I think I'll try to take more pictures later of this color, but in the meanwhile check out ByHillary's post on it, I think her color is more accurate.

Nail Polish of the Week: Russian Navy

Its that time of the year again, its fall! I am so happy for cooler weather, its been in the 80s for the last week and its just amazing. The cooler weather makes me love breaking out the darker colors. So its that time again, time for Russian Navy. One of my favorite colors a rich dark navy color with a little shimmer to it.

Nail Polish of the Week: Get Me To The Taj On Time

I know, I know... its late. But just think, I went 3 whole days with naked nails!  I just never had the time to sit down and do them, so I forced myself to do it last night. I didn't have much time, so I picked a lighter color of easier cleaning.

OPI's Get Me to the Taj on Time, is a pearly white color with the faintest bit of pink thrown in. I like it for a nude color, it doesn't have yellow in it which would give my nails a sickly color.

Nail Polish of the Week: Party In My Cabana

I feel insanely lame for not having updated in a week. In my defense it was a hectic week last week, but I'm just going to move on from that. There are a lot of things I want to say, but I'm going to just keep it to nail polish right now.

Seeing as Saturday was the first home game of the season, I decided to do some game day nails. So since our mascot is the Tigers, I decided to do tiger stripes... which are really zebra with a different background color. I used Sinful Colors' This Is It, with black stripes. I think I ended up a little too gold and it was more Saints than Tigers.

While I got tons of compliments on my tiger nails, I decided I didn't want to walk around with them all week. I repainted my nails OPI's Party In My Cabana. Its a nice dark coral color, which I think is a good transition into fall.

I also painted my toes OPI's Pamplona Purple. It comes out such a pretty purple color.

Nail Polish of the Week: Lacquered Up

This week I wanted to stay away from the blues. In my quest to find the right shade, I have just been wearing blue tones for weeks. Over the weekend I had Sinful Color's Gorgeous. Its a metallic sometimes blue sometimes green color.

But I changed it up Sunday night. I wanted to put on KnockOut this bright red color... the perfect red, from 17 by Boots. I got it when I went to England in high school. Sadly it was all clumpy and I just couldn't use it. 

So I settled for Essie's Lacquered Up. It is a great candy apple red color, but not as awesome as the red in Knockout, I so wish I had asked my friends to get another bottle for me when they were in England a few months ago. 

The pictures shows more orange that it really is. 

Anyways, this week seems to be very busy. I am working almost every night, and I have a special interview Thursday which I will tell you all about later. Its gearing up for a busy week, but I have some updates planned so hopefully I can stick to it. There might even be an outfit post this week. 

Nail Polish of the Week: Flyin' High and Zebra toes

I have been crazy about teal lately, first I bought two new pairs of earrings, both teal, at Francesca's.

Then I painted my nails China Glaze's Flyin' High. It was my first time using China Glaze and I did like it. Its on par with OPI and Essie, I just didn't like the brush very much. Loved the color though, it is very similar to my bedroom wall color.

But then I went a little wilder and painted my toes Zebra, which earned me some compliments and some people asking how much I paid for it... free I did it myself!

It's so odd to take a picture of your own feet to put up on your blog, just saying.  But this weekend was okay, it was mainly spent working. I worked this morning then went to the outlets in the afternoon. I tried on some boots at Nine West, but didn't buy anything. Hopefully I can go shopping this week and find myself a new pair of boots!

Nail Polish of the Week: Lapis of Luxury and School Updates!

I am at an odd place right now. I am was having a hard time deciding what nail color to go with, it was slightly distressing. So this week my color reasoning: it was right there in front of me. I usually have a reasoning behind why I choose a certain color and this week there simply was none. I guess with the start of school and all that I don't feel particularly inspired.

But the color for the week is Essie's Lapis of Luxury, I really do like this color it is such a pretty shade of blue and I got a few compliments on it today.

Tomorrow, I have to bring in all the supplies for my pattern making class. When you are going to school, you never realize how truly expensive it will be until you have to buy supplies. If you can see in the picture that pack of T-pins was $26! Its unbelievable how much things cost and THANK GOD my parents help me out, I couldn't do this with out them.

So pictured above is just mainly my sewing supplies, I have this huge roll of butcher paper and a bag packed with about 5 yards of fabric, a tape dispenser, a ream of paper, 10 poster boards and huge sheets of carbon paper to bring in as well. I have no clue how I am going to walk all of this across campus.

But other than that school has been going well. Parking is a pain, I spent over 30 minutes trying to find a spot and made it to class just as it was starting. Hopefully that nightmare won't happen again.

My classes?
I am finding my Product development class, 3032 and Marketing to be oddly similar. Marketing being more general and 3032 just focusing on the clothes.
Pattern Making or 3037, we have just taken notes in. I think tomorrow we will get to the meat of things and start draping (fingers crossed)!
Visual merchandising and Promotion strategies or 3045, we have just been taking notes and nothing new to report. 
Intro to Fine Arts got canceled today, after I walked without an umbrella in the rain to get to it, but that just means I got to go home early and bring packages to the post office. I sent some FabFlower love to Memphis, Tn!

Nail Polish of the Week: Royal Purple

Yeah, yeah, it isn't Monday, but Thursday when I am posting this week's nail color. But I didn't have any nail color on until Tuesday night! Yes, I went the first two days of school with naked nails!

Anyways, this week I really wanted a purple for some reason... maybe I am having a bought of school spirit. I decided to go dark purple instead of my usual Done Out in Deco. My favorite dark is OPI's Eiffel for this Color, but mine is like completely and utterly destroyed/ empty. So I had to search my nail polish for the perfect purple.

I came up with E.L.F.'s Royal Purple. I got this last Christmas, but hadn't used it because my sister told me the Elf colors chipped and came off really easily, but I was desperate.

So far its worked out pretty well, I have been wearing it for a whole day now, and no serious chipping to report. But we shall see. One thing I have to say, I liked the brush this nail polish came with, it was nice and thick which made for a quick and easy application.

Speaking of Elf, I had bought a bunch of makeup from them recently, a nice little haul... perhaps I'll do a post/review of a few of the things I got.

Nail Polish of the Week: Envy

This week, my nails are green with Envy! The color of the week is Ulta's Envy. I got this color for my birthday, but hadn't used it because I felt it was more of a fall/winter color. However I couldn't keep myself from it anymore. I decided the shimmery green reminded me of the outside of a watermelon so I painted my toes OPI's La Paz-itively Hot, a shimmery hot pink, and my fingers green... my own take on a watermelon... Voila, enjoy!

Nail Polish of the Week: Red Nouveau

It is that time again for the nail polish pick of the week! I should really pick a day to just do this every week, I'll try to commit to doing this post every Sunday (a little something to look forward to).
This week's color is Essie's Red Nouveau, it was one of my Colors of Summer picks, and now you get to see it in action. Red Nouveau is a gorgeous red with a hint of orange.

Nail Polish of the Week: Safari

It feels like forever! I just got back from Disney and am ready to get back to the usual routine.  Anyways in anticipation for the Disney vacation I had decided to do some fun nails...

Zebra Nails!

Zebra Print! I love zebra, so i free handed this. I started out with a clean slate and painted my nails white using Snow Me White from Sinful colors. Then using the Black from  Kiss Nail Artist Stencil kit I painted on my stripes! I think this hand came out pretty well... the other not so much. 

But anyway, the Kiss Nail artist stencil kit came with three polishes: black, white and sliver sparkle. I got mine at Walgreens for about $7. They feature long thin brushes so you can create details. I am looking forward to playing around with them and creating more nail designs. 

Please excuse the fuzziness of the picture, it was taken in a moving car on an iphone and it was the only picture I had of the nails. 

Oh and my Kiss Everlasting French Nails? They lasted for about four days until i got annoyed by them and decided to pop them off... but other than that they were pretty good. 

Nail Polish of the Week: DIY French

It has been a while since I last did a nail polish of the week. I was wearing Essie's Splash of Grenadine this week but never got a chance to do pictures of it, and it got messed up when I was doing Anna's nails... 

Anna has a wedding to go to today, but no time for a manicure... so we tried fake nails. I haven't done fake nails since I was little, and I had those play ones from the dollar store. But mom had heard that these worked well so time for an experiment.

The kit comes with 28 nails in 14 different sizes so its easy to mix and match the sizes, and you can easily use the included file to get the nails down to the perfect size. The easy application tabs, allow you to easily apply the nail and then you can twist them off.

I started off by thoroughly cleaning all nail polish off my nails. I then found the sizes fro all my nails and made sure everything fit, I think I only had to file down one of them down. The kit provides glue which is super strong and you just apply it to the nail then press it down on your own nail. 

So far the only thing I don't like about these nails is that some have a few bubbles under them. But overall I like them, I'm not used to having long nails. I am curious to see how they hold up. The box says 7 days we shall see!

Anna, has smaller hands and nails, so for her we got the petite pack, and they look really good too.

Colors of Summer

So by now you probably have realized I have a tiny nail polish addiction. I only have about 45 colors at the moment, so not to bad. Except for the fact that I am constantly buying new colors.

Anyways, I love summer time because its a great time to just be bright and colorful. This summer instead of just posting what colors I am wearing that week (although I will prob continue with that). I have decided to do a post dedicated to my favorite colors for this summer.

So these all happen to be Essie colors, which surprised even me because I am such an OPI girl... but anyways.

First we have Lapis of Luxury... the picture above makes it seem lighter than it is, its more of a periwinkle blue. I actually have it on right now.  Its a good casual color, great for everyday wear and I think it gives off a fun and laid back vibe.

Next up is Red Nouveau, its a great red orange color, which gives a classy feel but not too done up.

Fruit Sangria, I have yet to actually wear other than to do a swatch of it. Its a fun pink color which I plan on doing when I go to the beach later on in the summer.

Splash of Grenadine is another color I have yet to actually wear, but its a soft pinky purple color.

AND I LOVE Mint Candy Apple, this is a great color and perhaps my favorite for the summer. It has this cool vintage feel and its not to minty, I want to say more of an aqua color. (That is me speaking ribbon colors from work.) MCA is actually from the essie winter collection, and I had seen it on this girl at Ulta, but they were sold out, so I kept going back and they finally had it in stock.
